EditorialDear Readers! Another busy year is slowly coming to an end and it was a very interesting year for Onepoint - probably the most interesting ever (isn't it always? :-). We are especially happy that we reached all major goals defined in our business plan. So let me share some "highlights" of the fourth quarter with you:
Throughout 2007, we have learned that Onepoint Project - although originally designed for medium-sized high-tech and IT service companies - is indeed a true horizontal solution and can be successfully implemented across industries ranging from media and PR firms to discreet manufacturing and automotive. Together with our clients we will show that acceptance, usability and integration are the true business drivers for creating a sustainable Return on Investment from project leadership software. Best regards, Gerald Mesaric, CEO SolutionOnepoint Project 7.1 Network/Team EditionThe new update to Onepoint Project 7.1, Update 3, consolidates a number of changes we did for some of our customers with Update 2 that we officially only released on Sourceforge. The major changes are:
We intend to release Update 3 in the second week of January in order to make sure that our support team is available in full strength to assist you with updating if necessary. News
Open SourceBasic/Open Edition RoadmapA number of people have asked us if we are going to improve the Basic and Open editions also in the future even though we are currently investing a lot of resources into commercial features. The answer to this question is definitely yes. We have made a commitment to the open source development model and we will stick to it. However, as in the past we will always decide based on the nature of the feature whether it should be part of the open source part, or whether it should only be part of the commercial code base. The general "rule" is: If the feature is primarily used in a for-profit business scenario it will only be part of the commercial product roadmap. Otherwise, we will typically make it available as open source, too. For instance, version 8 will feature an improved to do list for the project manager that we will call the "Checklist" tool. This feature will be part of the Basic and Open editions. On the other side, the "Controlling" tool that will help you to control your projects primarily from a cost-compared-to-proceeds perspective will only be available in the commercial versions of Onepoint Project. In the next issue of the Report we will take a closer look at the new open source features in version 8 and how they can help you in your daily project work.
