Onepoint Report Nr. 26 (Q4/2009) |
||
EditorialDear Readers, welcome to our final newsletter for the year 2009. As you might have already discovered, we have released our newest version of Onepoint Project this Wednesday and we want to tell you a little bit more about Onepoint Project 9.1 in this issue of the Onepoint Report. Read more about our new release and the redesigned Controlling Cycle Option in the Solution section. Please note that our On Demand Edition will be upgraded to the new version within the next two weeks. We will also release new Basic and Open editions before the end of this year both on Sourceforge.net and Google Code. Beside that, we have successfully moved into our new office yesterday and all our infrastructure is already up and running again. The new office provides us with enough space to grow again in 2010 and we are already eager to start working on new and exciting features in the New Year! Regarding two of these new exciting features we would like to invite you to provide your requirements and your input:
For both projects we have already some first requirements and a number of interesting concepts and ideas. If you are interested in taking part of the specification process and provide us with your ideas and feedback please contact us at info@onepoint-project.com. With this, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Best Regards, Gerald Aquila, CEO SolutionOnepoint Project 9.1 & New Controlling Cycle OptionOnepoint Project 9.1: New Core FunctionalityThe major design goal of Onepoint Project 9.1 was to introduce formal project management and controlling (based on PMI and IPMA recommendations) without making our award-winning user interface more complicated. We hope that you agree with us that we have achieved this goal and that Onepoint Project 9.1 is still the most easy to use enterprise project management solution available today. Let us take a look at some of the more visible changes and new features of our latest EPM software release:
In addition, we further improved the configurability of Onepoint Project and introduced a number of new email notifications. We also improved the overall performance and scalability by getting rid of unnecessary server interactions in the project planning tool (especially when using custom fields or actions) and by further optimizing the database schema (additional database indexes). We will further measure and analyze the scalability of Onepoint for large project databases during the next months and the results of this project will be incorporated in the next major release of our enterprise project management software. Onepoint Project 9.1: Redesigned Controlling Cycle OptionA major redesign of the Controlling Cycle Option (CCO) complements Onepoint Project 9.1 with formal project controlling. The CCO is an optional module that is available for the Enterprise Edition for some time, but the new release takes this option to a new level. The new CCO adds multiple traffic lights across all major controlling dimensions with optional comments as well as new fields for describing the current situation, progress and the forecast. The new traffic lights are also visualized in both multi-project overviews (MY WORK/Projects and PROJECTS/Administration) on the new "Status" tab. However, the most important new feature of the Controlling Cycle Option is that it now provides the four most common project controlling reports as printable, multi-section PDF reports that can be created anytime by simply pressing a button:
All these new standard reports can be created from their "natural contexts": the project order and closure reports are created from the project detail dialog, the work instruction report is generated from the activity details and the project progress from within the respective controlling sheet. Onepoint Project 9.1: Free 60-Day Trial & Group Edition PromotionAdditional information about Onepoint Project 9.1 can be found on our What's New page on the Onepoint website.
